Flag (Medicare For All), 2019

Worn Hospital gowns and thread

72” X 42”

Flag was made to question the American Healthcare system, and the industrial complex of for-profit medical, health and pharmaceutical fields. Using the ubiquity of the American flag, but inserting themes of illness and sickness though the use of the hospital gowns as the fabric, alludes to 2 things:

The flag as representation of its citizenry through absence. The hospital gown, meant to be worn, a uniform for patients, serves as a reminder of what Healthcare needs should be met for all Americans (but aren't being met for far too many.)

And the second is the notion of freedom- trying to push passed symbolism, however. Freedom for health insurance to be separated from its dependencies on employment and employers. Agency and access to quality Healthcare for all Americans.
